There are a number of misconceptions surrounding the liposuction procedure. One important thing for our Miami patients to understand is that, contrary to much popular perception, liposuction is not a weight loss procedure.
Liposuction is, instead, a body contouring procedure that is designed to attractively re-shape your body. It is only appropriate for patients who are at or near their ideal bodyweight.
Dr. Jon Harrell will ensure you are a sound candidate for liposuction. But if you’ve recently lost a great deal of weight but still find yourself with stubborn deposits of fat that diet and exercise just don’t address, liposuction might be appropriate for you.
Now, some patients do lose a small amount of weight after a liposuction; this is usually a few pounds at most. However, this cannot be relied on, and many patients see no difference in their weight before and after liposuction.
Finally, while removing fat cells largely guarantees that they won’t return to the treatment area, you still have to maintain healthy habits. Fat you put on after liposuction often shows up in other areas of your body.
