Breast implants placed by Fort Lauderdale plastic surgeon Dr. Jon Harrell do not have an expiration date. Some women find the results of their initial breast augmentation procedure remain consistent for 20 years or more. Others, however, may need to have their breast implants removed and replaced within just a few short years. This varies from woman to woman and should be discussed with Dr. Harrell during you breast enhancement planning phase.
Breast Implant Rupture
One of the most common reasons to have implants removed and replaced is rupture. While there is no guarantee against rupture, there are some things that may reduce your risks. For example, if you are a body builder, placing implants above the muscles in your chest can reduce pressure and help prevent rupture. On the other hand, if you participate in contact sports, having implants placed below the muscles in your chest can help reduce trauma and prevent ruptures. Clearly, this is a very individual issue and will need to be determined by Dr. Harrell based on your unique needs and desires.
